Economic data: Inflation based on wholesale prices reached an all-time high of 10.49 percent in April 2021.

According to the data released by the government, wholesale price-based inflation (WPI) reached an all-time high of 10.49 percent in April 2021 due to the rise in the prices of crude oil and mineral oils. Inflation based on wholesale prices stood at 7.39 percent in March. Wholesale inflation was 4.17 percent in February. For January, the WPI inflation rate was 2.51 percent.

Inflation rose for a fourth consecutive month

On a month-on-month basis, wholesale inflation increased by 3.1 percent as compared to 7.39 percent in March. It was at an eight-year high in March. Last year, prices were low due to a nationwide lockdown imposed to prevent the outbreak of the Kovid-19 pandemic. WPI inflation has increased for the fourth consecutive month.
