World Oceans Day Special: The first World Oceans Day was observed on 8 June 2009. Since then, World Ocean Day is celebrated every year on 8 June. This day has been celebrated after the decision to celebrate World Oceans Day every year in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro in the Forum named “Planet of Earth” and in 2008 after the official recognition in this regard was given by the United Nations.
The main reason for celebrating World Ocean Day is to create awareness in the world about the importance of oceans in the world and the challenges they face. Apart from this, the aspects related to the ocean such as food security, biodiversity, ecological balance, indiscriminate use of marine resources, climate change, etc. have to be highlighted.
Every year on World Oceans Day, different types of events are organized all over the world on ocean-related topics, which play a major role in creating awareness about the positive and negative aspects of the ocean.
