Bihar Election Result 2020: Shivraj needs 8 seats to save the government in Madhya Pradesh

Counting will be held today for the by-elections held in 58 assembly seats in 11 states including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh. The results of the by-elections in Madhya Pradesh’s 28 assembly seats will decide the future of the state’s Shivraj Singh Chauhan government. For the first time in the history of Madhya Pradesh, by-elections have been held in so many seats. In March this year, 22 Congress MLAs resigned in the state, causing the minority government of Kamal Nath to fall. Most of these MLAs were supporters of Jyotiraditya Scindia, who later joined the BJP.

Scindia himself left the Congress in March and joined the BJP. In the 230-member Vidhan Sabha of Madhya Pradesh, presently BJP has 107, 87 of Congress, two of BSP, one of SP, and four Independents. After the by-election was announced, Congress MLA from Damoh Rahul Lodhi also resigned and joined BJP. The magic figure of the majority is 115, based on the effective number 229 of the House. BJP needs eight seats to get this figure, while Congress needs to win all 28 seats.
