Cyclone Tauktae: Danger signals have been placed on the seashore of Gujarat due to the possibility of cyclone ‘Taukate’ hitting. There are two numbers signal at Kandla port, while one number signal has been installed in Saurashtra and Kutch areas. Between 16 and 18 May, heavy rains were warned in areas of Saurashtra and Kutch.
Amreli Jaffarabad Vote Association said that about 700 boats are still in the sea, they are unable to contact due to wireless malfunction. Due to the low pressure in the Arabian Sea, the threat of cyclones is hovering over Gujarat. The cyclone is expected to move north, northwest. On May 17 and 18, there is a possibility of heavy rains in the cities along the coast of Saurashtra and Kutch.
On May 18, wind speed is likely to be 100 kilometers per hour in Saurashtra and Kutch, and South Gujarat areas. The government has sent two teams of NDRF to Rajkot. A dozen teams have been kept on standby. The state government has alerted the cities and villages on the seashore. Also, there has been an appeal to fishermen not to go to sea. Boats already present at sea have also been recalled.
Dwarka subdivision officer Nihar Bhetaria said that 5282 boats have been registered in the area of Dwarka, Okha, out of which only 20 to 25 boats are in the sea. He said that in view of the danger of cyclones, arrangements are also being made to evacuate people with the Corona Guideline. Shelters were built for them in the nearby village itself. The Valsad Collector informed that shelters have been set up in about 39 villages.
Given the impact of the cyclone, if necessary, people from the affected villages along the coast will be brought here. The administration has put a number signal on the seashore of Porbandar, Bhavnagar, Ghogha, Alang, Sartanpar, Amreli, Veraval, Junagadh, warning fishermen, and common citizens.
The low pressure being created in the Arabian Sea is gradually turning into depression. Instructions were issued to all employees in the administration to be present at the headquarters as well. The Boat Association had been instructed by the local administration to call the boat at sea on May 13, but the association says that about 700 boats of Amreli Zafarabad could not be contacted due to a technical fault of the wireless set. The reason is that the association officials are also worried.
