Fire at Mata Vaishno Devi: The cash counter set up by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, just 100 meters from the ancient cave at the world-famous Maa Vaishno Devi Bhawan, caught fire at around 4.00 pm on Tuesday due to a sudden short circuit. The fire engulfed the entire cash counter.

CRPF 06 battalion personnel deployed on the spot immediately informed the Fire Department as well as Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Everyone tried to control the fire with promptness. The fire was brought under control in about an hour but by then the cash counting machines along with the cash kept in the cash counter were completely burnt to ashes. The damage is being assessed. No injuries have been reported.

The flames in the cash counter of the building are being seen from far and wide. At present, the yatra has been stopped midway. Though only a very small number of devotees are currently coming for the yatra due to corona, the yatra has still been stopped as a precautionary measure. The yatra will be restored only after the situation is restored.

Live Aarti to be on its own time

Talking about the incident of fire at the cash counter at Maa Vaishno Devi Bhawan, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board CEO Ramesh Kumar said that the fire incident took place due to a short circuit in the cash counter. However, it has been brought under control within just one hour. This has not affected the daily live aarti at the holy stuck place of Mother Vaishno Devi near the cash counter. The live aarti of Mother Vaishno Devi will continue as usual. The extent of damage caused in this cash counter is being assessed.

It may be mentioned here that on 30th April also, a fire broke out under suspicious circumstances in Shambhu Market in Charan Paduka Temple area on Mata Vaishno Devi Marg. It took the fire brigade personnel more than two hours to douse it but by then 15 shops had been burnt.

There have been two incidents of fire in the Charan Paduka area in the past. In 2009, there was a massive fire in the PP Market in the same area. 55 shops were burnt in the fire. In 2012, there was another arson incident in the pp market. About 25 shops were burnt to ashes.
