Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha: The story of the moneylender’s seven boys, and a girl

Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha

Shri Ganesha Namah!

A moneylender had seven boys and a girl. Once, on the fourth day of the Krishna paksha of Kartik Mas, all the seven daughters-in-law including Sethani and her daughter also observed the Karwa Chauth fast. At night, when all the sons of the moneylender sat down to eat, they asked their sister to eat. The sister said, “Brother, the moon has not yet come out.” I will eat today only after the moon comes out.

The moneylender’s sons loved their sister very much, they were deeply saddened to see their sister’s hungry face. The moneylender’s sons went out of the city and climbed a tree there and burnt the fire. When he returned home, he said to his sister, “Look, sister, the moon has come out.” Now you give them a longitude and eat food. The moneylender’s daughter said to her nieces, “Look, the moon has come out, you people should also eat with a longitude.” On hearing Nanda’s words, the bhabhi said, “Sister, the moon has not yet come out, your brothers are fraudulently lighting a fire and showing you its light as the moon.”

The moneylender’s daughter ignored her nieces and ate food by giving a longitude to the moon shown by the brothers. Thus, due to the dissolution of the Karwa Chauth fast, the obstacle-maker was displeased with the daughter of Lord Ganesha Sahukar. Due to Ganesha’s unhappiness, the girl’s husband fell ill and all the money left in the house fell into his illness.

The moneylender’s daughter was deeply repentant when she came to know of her faults. He prayed for forgiveness to Ganesha and again started the fast of Chaturthi by law. He respected all those present in faith and then received blessings from them.

Thus, seeing the devotion of the girl, lord Ganesha was pleased with her and gave life to her husband. He was freed from all kinds of diseases and made rich in wealth, wealth, and glory.
