Two-time champion Victoria Azarenka defeated 15th seed Elina Svitolina in straight sets to advance to the fourth round of the ongoing Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne, while French Open champion Barbora Crescikova made a stunning comeback after losing the first set to advance. Azarenka scored 17 winners while Svitolina made frequent effortless mistakes. Azarenka, who won the title in 2012 and 2013 at Melbourne Park, won the match 6-0, 6-2. He will next face Crescikova.
Cressikova made a good comeback after losing the first set to 26th seed Yelena Ostapenko to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 and make it to the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time. In other matches, fifth seed Maria Sakari defeated 28th seed Veronica Kudermetova 6-4, 6-1 while Jessica Pegula defeated Nuria Parijas Diaz 7-6 (3), 6-2 to advance to the fourth round.
