IND vs NZ: Akash Chopra unhappy with Ajinkya Rahane being made captain in first Test

IND vs NZ: Team India has been announced for the two-match home Test series against New Zealand. Ajinkya Rahane has been given the reins of the team in the first Test to be played in Kanpur from November 25. Rahane’s bat has been silent for quite some time now and that is why cricket pundits are quite surprised that he has been made captain. Former India opener Akash Chopra has also questioned Rahane’s captaincy in the first Test. Akash says Rahane’s recent form is very poor and he will be under a lot of pressure in view of that.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Akash said, “You have chosen Ajinkya Rahane as captain. But to be honest, there was also a question of whether Rahane would have been in the team if the last Test against England had been played. I like Ajinkya Rahane, but the fact is that his average has been falling for some time now. In the meantime, there has been a good inning, but the average has gone down 20 points in the last two years. If he had not shared a partnership with Pujara by scoring a half-century in lord’s second innings, the discussion of finding a replacement for him would have intensified. If Rohit Sharma had been the vice-captain and Ajinkya might have been put on notice. But, rahane has been made captain at the moment. ‘
