Happy Birthday Sania Mirza: India’s star tennis player Sania Mirza is celebrating her 35th birthday today. Sania has achieved many major milestones in her career so far which started in 2009. In the mixed doubles in 2009, Sania along with Mahesh Bhupathi clinched the Australian Open title. The Indian tennis player did not look back after that and captured a total of six Grand Slams in his career. Sania, along with Martina Hingis, had created history by clinching three consecutive titles. Sania has been awarded the Arjuna Award in 2004, Padma Shri in 2006, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2015, and Padma Bhushan in 2016 for bringing glory to the country as a tennis player.

Sania also captured the French Open in 2012 with her partner after winning the Australian Open title with Mahesh Bhupathi in 2009. The pair had clinched their second consecutive title, dusting Claudia Jans ignasik and Santiago Gonzalez. Two years later, in 2014, Sania teamed up with Brazilian Bruno Soares to win the US Open mixed doubles title. In 2015, the Indian tennis player joined legendary Martina Hingis and together they scored a hat-trick by winning three Grand Slams in a big while. The pair clinched the Wimbledon and US Open trophies in 2015 and also captured the Australian Open the following year.

In doubles in 2015, Sania Mirza secured the first position in the WTA rankings and became the first Indian tennis player to do so. Sania retained the number one position for 21 months and won everyone’s heart with her consistent game. However, despite three Olympic stakes, Sania has not won a medal, which she also has. Sania has won eight medals at the Asian Games in her career so far. Sania also won a silver medal in women’s singles at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
