This society was established by King Rammohan Roy. Brijkishore, who worked as a headmaster in Bhagalpur, formed the Bhagalpur Mahila Samiti in 1863, India’s first women’s organization. In 1878, Kadambini became the first girl to pass the Entrance Exam at Calcutta University. Her journey also includes the milestone of becoming the country’s first female graduate. It was not easy for them to play the role of mother, doctor, and social activist together, but they did not give up.

Kadambini was married to Dwarkanath Gangopadhyay, the leader of the Brahma Samaj. Dwarkanath was already striving to improve the condition of women. Kadambini also proved to be his helper in this field. He had set up a home industry in the girls’ school. He attended the Madras session of the Congress in 1889 and gave a speech. Kadambini was the first woman to speak in the history of the institution until then. The Women’s Conference on the occasion of the Kolkata Congress in 1906 was also presided over by Kadambini Ji.
